How to get a tree removal permit in Burlington
- Determine if your tree is regulated or not:
– Measure the DBH of the tree that requires removal or injury.
– Starting January 27, 2020 property owners in the City of Burlington must apply for a permit and an in-person consultation before removing any tree / trees that have trunks measuring 20 cm / 8 inches or larger in diameter. Or, five or more trees between 10 to 20 cm, that’s 4 to 8 inches, measured at 1.4 meter above the ground in 1 calendar year.
– All endangered species & heritage trees are also regulated. - If your trees are regulated by the City by-laws:
– If you are removing 2 or more trees, you are required to obtain an Arborist Report from a certified arborist. The arborist report will need to include a Tree Replacement Planting Plan.
– Complete the online Private Tree Removal Permit Application.
